An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for mental health is more supportive than the traditional outpatient therapy and medication management but allows more flexibility than a residential program. An IOP typically meets 3-hours daily for an enrollment period of approximately 6-weeks. During your IOP enrollment, you will spend a majority of time in a group classroom setting among peers who are experiencing similar symptoms, with one individual therapy and medication session per week. Because of the time demands of an IOP program, it is typical for our enrolled adults to take partial or full FMLA during these 6-weeks.

Before admission into any IOP program, including Mindset's, a clinician will complete an intake assessment with you to determine both "medical necessity" and appropriate "level of care" based on your individualized situation including diagnoses, current functional impacts, symptom severity, community supports, and any other environmental factors.Typically, we describe IOP as the correct level of care for an individual who is struggling to maintain their normal activities for daily living (ability to emotionally regulate, keeping up with housework and self-care, maintaining stable performance at work, spending quality time with family, etc.), but this individual is able to maintain their own safety, medications, and personal life without the 24/7 support that a Inpatient Hospitalization or Residential provides.If an individual does not currently have a safe living situation, is struggling with severe suicidality, needs support to complete tasks such as eating and taking medications, or is otherwise struggling to keep themselves/others safe, a higher level than IOP could be the appropriate level of care and medically necessary for their own well-being.

Mindset IOP's office is located directly behind the Downtown Tacoma Transit Center on Commerce St. making it easily accessible for anyone utilizing public transportation. If you would prefer to drive and park here in Downtown Tacoma, we have a 5-story parking garage next-door to us where we cover the cost of all patient parking. If you choose this option, you will bring your license plate number in with you every morning at 9am and validate your parking on Mindset's iPad at the front entrance. Most insurance plans require us to obtain a "prior authorization" on your behalf before you can be officially enrolled. The average time for us to submit and receive this authorization is 5 business days, so please try to be flexible with us as some insurance plans take longer to respond, unfortunately.

Mindset provides all of the materials needed, so there will be zero costs to you outside the copay and deductible rates set by your health insurance plan. For In-Network Insurance Please familiarize yourself with your remaining deductible amount and contact your insurance at the online portal or by calling to ask what the daily copay amount for IOP will be (procedure code S9480). Mindset will provide you with a good faith estimate of your expected out-of-pocket costs according to your insurance plan. For Out-of-Network Insurance Please contact your plan for the most reliable cost estimates as some plans do not provide any coverage at all for out-of-network care. Your deductible and copay amounts are typically different when seeing an in-network vs. out-of-network provider. It is always recommended to utilize your benefits by seeing in-network providers whenever possible. Uninsured or Private Pay Mindset offers a sliding-scale income-based private pay option for any individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Most clients who face time conflicts between their employment and IOP schedule will utilize their FMLA benefit, which is protected medical leave afforded to all qualified WA state employees. To find out if your employer is required to provide FMLA leave, please visit this Department of Labor FMLA Guide below.If you qualify for FMLA, you will simply need to request your employer to provide their specific FMLA form to Mindset's staff for completion.

Mindset's clinical staff routinely complete the 'Medical Certification of a Serious Health Condition' PFML form when necessary and requested. If you meet the requirements and will apply for PFML benefits, you simply need to notify a Mindset staff member. We will supply you with the completed Medical Certification PFML form, and you will follow the directions for filing and applying online.
